As a student of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, the author, Dr Shehzad Saleem, had started to write a researcher’s companion to his annotated translation of the Qur’an (Al-Bayan) in 2003. The purpose was to bring out in contrast and comparison the views expressed in classical commentaries of the Qur’an. He was only able to finish Surahs Fatihah and Baqarah when he had to leave this work and devote himself to some other projects. This unfinished work is being printed to urge and motivate serious students of the Qur’an to complete this daunting task.
